ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the techniques and the prevention and cure of preoperative complications of the endovascular embolization in managing the intracranial aneurysms. Methods A total of 90 aneurysms in 88 patients were treated by detachable coils embolization. The clinical results and the management of complications were reported. Results Seventy aneurysms were occluded at 100%, 13 aneurysms at 90% to 95% and 5 aneurysms at only 80. The perioperative complications occurred in 9 patients, including the coil escaping from the aneurysm sac into its parent artery in 3 patients, re-rupturing of aneurysm in 4 patients during operation and serious vasospasm in 2 patients. Two patients died. Conclusion The endovascular embolization is a safe, effective and micro invasive method in managing intracranial aneurysms. The exact embolizing techniques chosen are very important to improve the curative results and decrease the complications of embolization of intracranial aneurysms.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the methods and outcome of 71 patients with Parkinson's disease treated with microelectrode-guided stereotactic pallidotomy and thalamotomy. Method Pallidal and thalamal target sites are chosen by supervision of microelectrode recording technique in 71 patients with Parkinson's disease. The UPDRS motor score was used to evaluate the outcomes 12 weeks before and after operation Result After 12 months follow-up, tremor disappeared completely or nearly completely in 12 patients who underwent unilateral and l bilateral ventrolateral thalamotomy. Dramatic improvement of tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia were observed in 57 patients underwent posteroventral pallidotomy, including 6 underwent bilateral posteroventral pallidotomy. Intracerebral hemorrhage was observed in l patient. Conclusion Microelectrode-guided stereotactic pallidotomy and thalamotomy are effective in treatmenting Parkinson's disease, but with serious complications

ABSTRACT

Three compounds were isolated from the leaves of Rabdosia amethystoides (Benth) C.Y.Wu et Hsuan. They were identified as Irabdosinaiol (Ⅰ), oleauolic acid (Ⅱ), ?-sitostcrol (Ⅲ) on the basis of chcmical reactions and spectral data. compounds Ⅰ and Ⅱ were isolated for the first time from this plant.

ABSTRACT

Thirty-seven cases of brain glioma, confirmed by light microscopy and immuno-'histochemistry were studied with transmission electron microscopy. It was found that there were certain ultrastructural features for each type and each grade of glioma. In astrocytoma, there was certain amount of glial filaments in the tumor cells; Rosenthal fibers consisted of irregular osmiophilic masses surrounded with glial filaments, occasionally cytoplasmic annulate lamellae and intranuclear filaments could be seen, and the interstitial capillaries were characteristic. In typical oligodendroglioma, astrocytic processes containing glial filaments were quite present in different amounts. These findings suggest that observation on the ultrastructure of gliomas is of significance to establish the diagnosis,to assess the degree of differentiation, and to identify some rare structures which can reveal the essence of the tumor. In addition, ultrastructural observation is helpful for prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To report the experiences in the endovascular embolization treatment of intracranial aneurysm. Methods A total of 29 patients with intracranial aneurism were treated with Gugliemi detachable coils(GDC). Results Complete occlusion was found in 15 cases, 90% occlusion in 12 and 80% in 2. Three patients had different degrees of headache. The coil escaping from the sac of the aneurysm and suspending in the parent artery of the aneurysm was seen in 1 patient. Two patients died: one was due to disruption of aneurysm and another severe bleeding in digestive tube. Conclusion Endovascular embolization of intracranial aneurysm is a minimally traumatic, safe and effective method for the treatment of intracranial aneurysm. GDC system is of easy operation, high safety and low incidence of complications.

ABSTRACT

Most authors agree that arachnoid cyst accounts for about 1 % of all intracranial space-occupying lesions, but this lesion is more frequently found now-a-days as the application of cranial CT becomes more common, your cases of intracranial arachnoid cyst were reported with discussions on its etiolgy, pathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnosis, and treatment. In children, the presenting symptom is hydrocephalic manifestations; while in adults, it is headache with various focal symptoms depending on the locations of the cyst. There are certain indications for surgical therapy but direct excision is the treatment of choice in most cases. Surgical mortality should be seriously considered and not be neglected. No death occurred in our four cases.
